The Large Asset Pack contained 16-bit A4R4G4B4 textures for effects but used the same 8-bit palettized textures for units, buildings, and environments as software rendering. Adding a new 16-bit R5G6B5 MAP format and writing a tool to convert 24-bit BMP files to that format led to this:
